Becky + Dan's wedding at Rockbeare Manor was elegant, understated and filled with the kind of genuine moments I love to capture.
An overcast Devon day gave us beautifully soft natural light, while the warmth of their families and the atmosphere inside the Manor gave the day its character.
But there was another story quietly woven through their wedding — one that had begun several years earlier.

SOME THINGS ARE
WORTH PRESERVING.
Becky wasn't the first person in her family I'd had the privilege of filming.
Several years earlier, I had filmed the wedding of her older sister, Kirsty. During that day, their stepfather gave a reading. He had a wonderful speaking voice and, when I came to create Kirsty's film, I wove his words through the images and music.
The family loved the way that reading became part of the finished film.
So when Becky + Dan began planning their own wedding, they made sure their stepfather had another reading to give.
THEY HAD LOVED THE WAY A FAMILY VOICE HAD BECOME PART OF ONE WEDDING FILM — AND WANTED THAT MEMORY PRESERVED AGAIN.

MORE THAN HOW
IT LOOKED.
There's something incredibly special about knowing that an element of a wedding was chosen because of the way a previous family story had been preserved on film.
For me, that's what wedding filmmaking is really about. Not recreating somebody else's wedding, but preserving the voices, relationships and little pieces of family history that give each day its meaning.
Years from now, the flowers will be gone and the day itself will feel impossibly far away. But the voices will still be there.

ROCKBEARE MANOR
A filmmaker's perspective on one of Devon's most elegant country house wedding venues.
THE DINING ROOM
Becky + Dan held their ceremony in The Dining Room. Its tall windows allow natural light to fill the room, giving an indoor ceremony a wonderfully soft and elegant quality on film.
On their overcast wedding day, that light was particularly beautiful — soft, flattering and without the harsh contrast that bright summer sunshine can sometimes create.
NATURAL LIGHT
One of the things I remember most about filming at Rockbeare Manor is the quality of the natural light throughout the house.
For wedding filmmaking, that matters. Beautiful available light lets moments remain natural, without needing to turn the day into a production.
THE BILLIARD ROOM
Dan and the boys prepared in the Billiard Room, which gave us something completely different visually.
Its darker, more atmospheric character and billiard table created a lovely contrast with the brighter rooms elsewhere in the Manor — and gave the morning preparations their own distinctive feel.
